Venus Williams Found “at Fault” for Car Death

Star tennis player Venus Williams has been found “at fault” for “violating the right of way of (the other driver)” and causing the death of a 78-year-old man, identified as Jerome Barson, in a car accident in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The accident occurred on June 9 when Williams, according to witness reports to Palm Beach Garden police, ran a red light in her 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV and was hit by the deceased’s Hyundai Accent, which was driven by his wife Linda at the time.

After the accident occurred, Williams made a statement to the police saying she ‘had entered a six-lane intersection on a green light, was forced to stop because of traffic ahead of her, and had not seen the Barsons’ car when she crossed the lanes’ and further blamed the accident on “heavy traffic”.

Through her lawyer, Malcolm Cunningham, Williams has expressed her regrets over the death of Mr Barson, sending his family, “her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one” and in a separate statement posted on Facebook said, “I am [devastated] and heartbroken by this accident…I continue to keep them in my thoughts and prayers”.

But despite her condolences, Williams is now being sued by Mr Barsons’ estate, which is “seeking unspecified damages” and was filed by Michael Steinger, the attorney representing the Barson family.

Linda Barson, according to her lawyer, has not made a statement regarding the case.

Mrs Barson also sustained some injuries as a result of the crash, including a fractured spine and numerous internal injuries. Ms Williams sustained no injuries.
