For those of you who haven’t been living under a rock, you will be well aware of Prince Harry taking a HIV test which was broadcasted and shared live on social media last Thursday.
His decision in taking an HIV test was to simply raise awareness of issue of HIV and how serious the illness can be, especially if you don’t get regularly tested. Statistics from the UK estimate around 11,000 people who are unaware they have HIV which further encouraged Harry to take the step of being publicly tested.
Harry’s results came out all clear, however, he has pointed out that people who do test positive for HIV can still live a normal healthy life by taking a pill every day.
But don’t let that stop you from getting tested at least every twelve months. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), there were approximately 36.9 million people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS at the end of 2014. 2.6 million of these people were children under the age of 15.
Harry told his HIV advisor and counsellor, Robert Palmer, “to normalize the situation, surely it’s better for everyone to get tested.”
It took less than five minutes for Harry to find out he was negative for HIV and it could take the same amount of time for you. Don’t hesitate any further and go get your HIV test today.
