It seems Fifty Shades of Grey has not turned hardware stores into an S&M mecca, as a man built an enormous mousetrap.

Kevin Kohler, or Backyard Scientist as he goes by on YouTube and Twitter, posted a video on the video-sharing site of a giant mousetrap he made to catch racoons, or “rats” as he refers to them in the video, rummaging through his bins.

Commenting on why he built the massive contraption on his YouTube page, Kohler said, “Originally I built it to use garage door springs, but they were not strong enough. Once I switched to coil springs stuff started breaking”.

“First it was the bar, which bent, and needed corner enforcement’s welded on”, he continued,

“Then the axle running down the centre of the springs bent, so I needed to add hardware to counteract the winch pulling on it”.

Since he posted the video, which you can see in full here, on May 2, 2017, it has been viewed over 1 million times.
