Happy Australia Day! Have plans yet? If not, never fear. We’ve got the hottest places to celebrate this year across Melbourne.

Swimland Great Australia Day Swim 2016 – Middle Brighton Pier

Take the entire family out to Brighton either to participate in the open swims or to cheer from shore. The whole crew can get involved if they like, as the organizers are offering four different courses for the holiday: a 1400m open water swim, a 5km open water swim, a 650m intermediate swim, and a 300m swim for youths.

Kensington – Australia Day 2016 Family Festival

Running from noon to 8pm on Australia Day this year, just outside the Kensington station on Macaulay Road, this free festival is an absolute must-stop-by locale for you and yours. The festival was a smashing success last year, with over 5,000 aussies in attendance and this year promises to hold a similar number of guests. And we will be entertained with a championship billy cart race, international food vendors, as well as a dog show and market stalls.

Munich Brauhaus – Australia Day with Friends

If you’re planning on spending this Australia Day with friends having a bit of a piss up instead of with the kiddos, head down to Munich Brauhaus in South Wharf at some point. For $20, you’ll get a brilliant lamb burger and 300ml of Bride Pale Ale. Ah. Delicious.

Brunswick St. Cider House – Ausfest

And if you’re in north of the CBD this Australia Day, there’s really nowhere better to be than the Brunswick St. Cider House for their annual Ausfest. $28 gets you a stein filled with craft cider or beer, pulled pork roll, and apple crumble for dessert. Did we mention that refills of that stein are only $10 each? With bar games and an in-house DJ, we’re really looking forward to this one.
