Moisturisers, toners, oils, retinol, cleansers… The list of products we use or are supposed to use on our faces often seems endless. At the very least, it’s overwhelming and confusing. And then, once we figure out what we should be using, we have to figure out how to use it: what comes first? Oil or moisturiser? Retinol or toner?! The good news is, there’s no need to stress. We have the definitive guide to how to use your face products, and what they do.
Step 1. Cleanser
Cleansing TWICE is the first and most important step to your beauty regime. Cleansing will remove make-up and wash your face, and whether you plan to put anymore products on it or not, cleansing your face morning and night is a non-negotiable when it comes to skincare.
Step 2. Toner
Toner is a useful tool that can be used to treat acne or hydrate dry skin. This step can be done in the morning, in the evening, or both.
Step 3. Moisturiser
This is another super important step in your beauty regime. Regardless of your skin type, moisturising is vital. It hydrates your skin and keeps it healthy. You should be moisturising in the morning and night, and using a moisturiser with SPF 30 or above in it for the morning.
Step 4. Retinol
Retinol is the only beauty product that will actively work to reduce wrinkles. Apply retinol all over your face in the evening. If you’ve never used the product before you should introduce it slowly, using it only once a week and gradually using it more regularly.
Step 5. Oil
Use oils in the morning, evening or both to lock in all the products that you have applied to your face. No other product will be able to penetrate oil, so it’s important that you use this product last.
