With all the attention the new and much-anticipated Disney live action film Beauty and the Beast is currently receiving, it has left Disney fans across the globe wondering which animated classic will join the live action line-up next?
We have had Cinderella (2015), Maleficent (2014), the Jungle Book (2016), and as of the 23rd of March 2017 we will have had Beauty and the Beast, but what next? Which childhood classic should Disney make into a new live action film?
Well that has already been decided my friends, Disney announced that they will be developing a remake of the film aptly named after the daring heroine Mulan, set for release at the end of 2018. I support the collective “YES!” I heard from all those reading this.
Yes, Disney will be making a live action film about the Chinese warrior and what’s more, they are searching of an entirely Chinese cast. There was much stir on social media regarding the stigma of whitewashing casting in the Hollywood film industry and many fans were worried that the ionic role of the title character, or that of her love interest would not be appropriately depicted. But apparently that is not the case and Disney is actively searching for an all-Chinese cast, however there is still no word yet on who the actors will be.
The only negative thing about this remake is that it apparently won’t be a musical! That’s right folks, none of the amazing songs from the 1998 classic Disney soundtrack are going to feature in this new film, instead its going to be all action and swords and stuff. Which I suppose is still okay. But really?! No one is going to be singing “I’ll Make A Man Out of You?” Dishonour on you Disney and dishonour on your cow!
