5 Rooftop Bars You Can’t Miss in Bangkok

Renowned for its fantastic nightlife, amazing food, world class shopping, and cultural sights, Bangkok is a popular starting point for holidays around Southeast Asia.

While the cheap street eats and pumping backpacker bars of Khao San Road attract many a young traveller, Thailand’s capital city is also a fantastic luxury getaway destination – and often without the luxury price tag.

Five star hotels, fine dining, and some very swanky rooftop cocktail bars make enjoying the high life accessible, without hurting the wallet (too much).

If you’re heading to Bangkok, plan on visiting one of these hotspots to take in the glittering cityscape with a cocktail in hand.

Sky Bar at Lebua

Located on the 63rd floor, about 820 feet above the city streets, Sky Bar offers 360 degree views and live jazz nightly. Plan your visit around sunset to watch the sky change dramatically over the sprawling metropolis, Chao Phraya River, and surrounding temples.

A cameo appearance in The Hangover 2 made this bar popular among western travellers, which means the crowds are inevitable.  The cocktails are among the priciest in Bangkok, but consider that your entrance fee to some of the best views on offer.

Onsite award-winning restaurant, Sirocco, is perfect for those wanting an evening of total indulgence. If jostling with fellow tourists isn’t your style, try Distil at Lebua, just one floor above Sky Bar.

Vertigo & Moon Bar, Banyan Tree

A little more relaxed and less crowded than Sky Bar, with similar views of the Chao Phraya River and city skyscrapers.  Set 61 floors above the city, the space at Banyan Tree is divided into two sections.  Vertigo offers a totally al fresco rooftop dining experience, while Moon Bar will have punters relaxed in a more informal setting.  It’s a beautiful, cosmopolitan space that feels a world away from the busy streets below.

Above Eleven

Begin your evening at Above Eleven, a rooftop bar and restaurant on the 33rd floor of the Fraser Suites Sukhumvit.  Located right on Sukhumvit’s pulsating party street, Soi 11, it will be easy to carry on the night after a few cocktails at great heights.

Above Eleven serves up fantastic Peruvian-Japanese cuisine, with treehouse-vibe architecture, and plenty of comfy lounge furniture spread across two levels. Come for Wednesday’s Salsa Night, Thursday’s Jazz Night, or dance to DJs on the weekends.

Park Society, Sofitel So

Not all sky bars are created equal.  Park Society’s unique views over the immense Lumphini Park makes this rooftop spot an ideal destination day or night.  This bar typically attracts a younger crowd, and offers both indoor and outdoor seating plus a small selection of tapas to go with your drinks.

Cloud 47

Sitting atop an office building rather than a hotel, Cloud 47 escapes a lot of the tourist buzz and remains a more relaxed and casual haven (with friendly prices), rather than the glitz and glam of other rooftop bars on the list.

It’s covered outdoor seating area makes it a great drinking hole even on rainy days.  Located right in the centre of Silom Road, just past popular Patpong Night Market, it’s super easy to get to.

The Speakeasy, Hotel Muse

The views at The Speakeasy are awesome, but you may not even notice as the style and décor of this venue is just next-level.

Themed on the 1920’s Prohibition era, this unique space feels more like a colonial living room than a sky bar – something you might expect in the streets of New York or Chicago, not Bangkok.

Located on the 24th and 25th Floor of Hotel Muse, The Speakeasy has many wonderful little nooks and crannies to explore, including the rooftop, a long bar, lawned lounge area, cigar bar and terrace bar.
