Calvin Klein’s advertising team knows what they’re doing – their spring 2016 advertising campaign “Erotica” is catching fire. It’s probably because they managed to rake in an incredible celebrity cast for the campaign – or it could be because they’re in revealing and suggestive poses.
With names as big as Kendall Jenner, Justin Bieber, and Kendrick Lamar in the mix, this campaign was never going to go unnoticed. It features its stars in an array of risqué poses, turning people’s heads with a defined ‘shock’ factor. Although it’s certainly not their clothing products we’re focusing on, it’s a clever bit of advertising.
The I _____ in #mycalvins catchphrase is used in each of the images, which is often used in the campaign with cheeky double entendres. Kendall’s tag “I eat in #mycalvins” as she suggestively holds an undetermined phallic object near her mouth was racier content than we expected to find on our screens this morning.
The inclusion of the ‘belfie’ or the ‘bum selfie’ was certainly a bold move, but a good one for reeling in a young, social-media-obsessed audience. The model was unnamed – probably because they didn’t feel much like showing this bit of modelling work to mum.
Topless denim fashionistas, skin-flaunting underwear models, and all-bearing swimwear catalysts – it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. This picture of Abbey Lee Kershaw is definitely something new, though. We’re yet to see it up on a billboard or a bus stop poster, but we’re not holding our breath.
The Calvin Klein brand has put in a lot of work to establish its racy flirtings with sexuality in its ad campaigns, and what better celebrity to help them to it? Justin Bieber being associated with something more on the rebellious side hasn’t shocked anyone. Actually, come to think of it – this is one of the tamer, less revealing pictures we’ve seen of him (if we remember correctly?).
All up, it’s fair to say that I am impressed in #mycalvins.
