If you’re anything like me, you’ve been in hibernation for the past four months for fear of the elements (i.e. fear that your toes will freeze off the minute you step outside or you’ll catch a cold if you’re not wearing eight layers of thermals). But alas, the time has come to breathe easy – spring has finally sprung, which only means one thing: summer sun is around the corner. With beautiful weather headed our way, it only makes sense to take advantage of the outdoors. Here are my favourite activities to help you get a spring in your step, and make the most out of the coming months.
- The Humble Picnic
As simple as it might seem, there’s no better way to enjoy perfect weather than with good food and good company. It doesn’t take too much effort, some chopped up veggies, dip and a bottle is all you really need to spend a perfect afternoon outdoors. So head to your favourite park with your favourite people, and enjoy breathing in the fresh air.
- Going For a Walk
In my opinion, the best possible time to get active is during spring. If you’ve been putting off exercise because of the miserable weather, the fresh smell of flowers and warm sun can be all the motivation you need to get active. Working off that winter weight is easy when you enjoy exercising, so change up your walking routes and enjoy new scenery every time. You might also build a bit of colour for a sun-kissed glow – it’s a win-win.
- Road Trip
If you have a day to spare, why not take the day to explore somewhere new? Not only do you get to enjoy a new atmosphere, but you also get that mini holiday feeling. Who doesn’t need a mid-week vacation?
- Delicious Food
It’s that time of the year where all the deliciousness of summer fruits come out to play. If you’re partial to all things sweet, this is definitely the season for you. Get creative with different juices, cocktails and fruit salads, because this is the prime part of the year to enjoy all the flavours that nature has to offer.
Be it exploring with friends or just taking some well-earnt you-time, spring is the perfect time to get out, get active, and enjoy the good vibes that Melbourne thrives on.
