In attendance was Tatayana Ali, who played the youngest sister Ashley Banks, Alfonso Ribeiro, the only Banks son Carlton, Karyn Parsons, the elder Banks sister Hilary, Will, need I say more, Daphne Reid, who played (the second) mother Banks Vivian, and Joseph Marcell, the English butler Geoffrey Butler (apparently that was the character’s last name as well as his job title- odd!).

Sadly though, James Avery, who played the head of the Banks family, Uncle Phil, was not in attendance, having passed away in 2013 from complications from open-heart surgery.

The Hawaiian reunion was marked on Instagram by Alfonso Ribeiro, who posted a photo of the group with the caption “Always amazing to spend an afternoon with my Fresh Prince family. Wishing that James Avery was still with us to make this complete”— @therealalfonsoribeiro

Tatayana Ali also posted the photo on her Instagram account with the caption, “A wonderful afternoon with family. We miss you James”– @tatayanaali

While it seems this was just a reunion, one fan, Xavier Burgin, who is also a director and writer, started a thread on Twitter suggesting there be a revival of the show because of another photo of Will Smith looking like Uncle Phil back in the day.

Burgin began his thread by saying, “Plot Twist: Will smith is preparring for the remake of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, but he’s the Uncle this time”– @XLNB

He then followed this up with a series of tweets saying how he’d like to see Will smith do this and what the revival might look like, for instance, a later tweet said: “Rather than call the show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, I do like the idea of calling it #UncleWill and it more so focuses on Will’s character”– @XLNB

While no news has been confirmed about a revival of the 90’s hit show, the idea certainly got Burgin excited. But I suppose we’ll just have to wait see what happens.
