Stop serving your friends party pies, sausage rolls, and fairy bread at your get-togethers. They’re not five years old anymore, and you’ve got more class. Try these all-too-easy canape recipes that’ll make it look like you put in a lot more effort than you actually did. You’ll have much more time to sit back and relax, or put away your dirty washing before everyone turns up.

1. Cheese and Tomato Toadstools

Serve your guests magic mushrooms (no, not that kind). All you have to do is chop a cherry tomato in half, stick it on top of a little ball of mozzarella or bocconcini cheese, and dot the top with whatever white condiment you can find. Add a basil leaf and there you have it, a small fairy garden of hors d’oeuvres ready to go. In case you need a little more guidance, see the recipe here.

2. Salmon and Crème Fraiche Pikelets

Another great canape recipe if you’re in a rush to get things ready. They’re the perfect mix of fresh and rich, and are also a crowd favourite with my friends. Some genius thought of pre-making the mini pikelets and selling them in packets, so there’s no cooking needed. Just open them, spread them, top them. Get the recipe here.

3. Greek Salad Bruschetta

A fresh idea to use up the veggies in your fridge, this classic Greek combination is much more presentable and more easily eaten on little slices of toasted bread. If the picture hasn’t given you all the instruction you need, the full recipe is here.

4. Watermelon, Cured Ham, and Feta Toothpicks

Watermelon and cured ham sounds like a strange combination for a canape, but once you’ve tried it, you’ll be bringing a plate of them to every one of your friends’ lunches. It’s just like mini kebabs – thread on the watermelon pieces, the ham, feta cheese and top it with a mint leaf. All there’ll be left to do is sit back and listen to everyone sing your praises. Take a look at the recipe.

5. Lime Possets

Forget what you know about serving desserts – this creamy, zesty cup of heaven only has four ingredients. And that’s including the topping. You can whip it up to chill overnight the day before to save on time, too. Although we can’t promise they’ll still be there when your guests arrive. Find out how to make it here.

6. Sugared Scones

We’re not sure if it counts as a canapé, but these are so dang easy you won’t care. Legend has it my grandma used to whip up scones when she saw someone walking up her driveway, and she’d have them out of the oven before they sat down at her table. Here’s a recipe to get you on your merry way.
