What You Missed From the Logies

The 58th Annual TV Week Logie Awards, held on May 8th in Melbourne, was a whirl of great entertainment, fashion yeses, and quality comedy – with a couple of hiccups here and there. If you missed it, or feel like re-living the best moments; come and get your fix of the good bits.

The Red Carpet
It’s the reason most of us watch any awards ceremony, isn’t it? The display on the red carpet at the Logies this year didn’t let us down as the Aussie TV stars put on an elegant display. There seemed to be an unconfirmed theme this year as a surprising amount of stars decided black, sleeved, and lacy was the way to go – with Carrie Bickmore and Jessica Marais showing everyone how it’s done. Other standouts on the carpet were Delta Goodrem, in a fairytale-esque gown, and Rebecca Judd, who, pregnant with twins, was still looking in better form than most of us (it’s ridiculous). The Entertainment
The presenters did well to offer some quality entertainment, and Channel Nine delivered on their advertised “live and dangerous” broadcast of the event. In true awards ceremony fashion, there were a lot of laughs – and just as much awkward.

The jokesters seemed to be targeting animals this year, with funny man Dave Hughes joking about kicking his dog, and Shaun Micallef making banter about endangered animals. It left us with a couple of awkward camera moments from Bondi Vet’s Dr Chris Brown.

Julia Morris, after tripping on the stage and swearing on live TV, gave a boisterous rendition of I Need a Hero. Oh, and Lee Lin Chin was her excellent self. Enough said.

The Winners
As for the winners of the Silver Logie awards, there weren’t many huge shocks, with Family Feud and The Block taking the Best Entertainment and Best Reality Show awards respectively. The Best Actor award went to Erik Thomson for his work on 800 Words, and the Best Actress of the year was Jessica Marais from Love Child – it seems Packed to the Rafters certainly set its stars up well.

The Gold Logie
We’re sure you’ve caught word that The Project’s co-host Waleed Aly beat his five fellow gold Logie nominees to the prize – and delivered a killer speech to go with it. Dedicating it “to those with an unpronounceable name”, he discussed the lack of diversity in the media – and simultaneously proved to everyone exactly why we need to be looking for more than appearances on our television sets.
