Just finished decorating your house in this year’s rose gold and copper trends? You may not want to hear this, but forecasts are in, and the design trends we’ve grown to love this year are about to receive a big shake up.
By now, you should know that some of the most common trends for 2016 were: rose gold, copper and marble. Just about every homewares store jumped on the bandwagon and added bits of marble and copper into their collections, and boy, did we love it.
Now, as we saddle up to celebrate the New Year, forecasters and designers are thinking about what 2017 will hold – and it looks like there is a big change in interior trends heading our way, we’re talking richer colours, natural wood and artisanal pieces.
Get excited, here are some of the forecasted trends…
WHAT’S IN
- Terracotta
Terracotta is making a massive comeback.
Set to be one of the biggest trends in 2017 terracotta is predicted to be used for tiles, flooring and lighting, just to name a few.
Terracotta can add depth and warmth, especially when kept as a matte finish. It also adds texture, a key feature set to replace the popular cool and white tones that have been dominating for a while.
So don’t throw out those old terracotta pots you’ve got lying around, just add some greenery and voila! You’re already on trend for the new season.
- Dark Green (or darker coloured furniture)
Different shades of dark green are tipped to become the new must-have dark interior colour in 2017. They are set to replace the
current midnight blue and navy tones from this season.
The colour itself gives the feeling of luxury, royalty and sophistication, as well as being very versatile. This means you’ll still be able to use metallic and gold accessories to create depth and design new looks. And this rich colour isn’t limited to paint on a wall, think outside the box with things like a feature armchair or décor items used as accents.
- Cork
Yep, you heard correctly. Cork is making a comeback.
The material provides a variety of options by adding warmth and texture to different spaces, depending on how it is used. It also has a duel purpose, working as a noise reduction piece in large, open plan homes.
Cork can be used as a feature in key pieces like coffee tables or stools, as well as covering entire walls at a time, creating the ultimate pin board wall.
- Fabric Bedheads
Timber bedheads are old news. This season, the trend is all about the upholstered look in the bedroom.
Considered more of a luxury, this theme fits with the rest of the upcoming trends of the season, and allows for more design choice and freedom when designing a new look.
Get creative by introducing a plush new bed head in velvet or keep it simple with a neutral tone. Either way, prepare to inject some instant lavishness into your bedroom this New Year.
Although there are some exciting new trends on the way in, this does mean that we have to say goodbye to some crowd favourites from the year. Here are some of the things that are predicted to phase out next year.
