1. What’s the inspiration behind your business ?
   I was inspired to start Fusspot Collagen Beauty Teas because I am an avid tea drinker, and I was drinking so many cups of tea per day, and so started researching the benefits of drinking tea and was amazed by the incredible health benefits of tea for both your body, your skin and your wellbeing. Tea is packed with antioxidants, polyphenols and catechins and I thought “Why is no-one selling tea as a beauty product!?” I had also been reading and hearing a lot about hydrolyzed collagen peptides at the time, I’m getting older and I was curious about collagen, and then it dawned on me – “What if I could make a product that has the boost of both tea and collagen?”  Then it was all about how do I infuse tea with collagen and make this work because I bet there’s heaps of people out there like me who would be interested in this product!

2. What is the problem you’re trying to solve? 

Ageing and wellness. We all want natural benefits… and we’re all ageing… we want to remain looking and feeling our best! No matter what age you are, you always want to improve your body, your skin, your hair and your nails, just look at the beauty and fitness industries! So, when you learn that our natural collagen production starts to deplete by 1% to 2% per year from your mid 20’s… well, that is quite some impetus when you can start to prevent this in your 30’s,  or maintain and manage ageing in your 40s and 50s, and ingesting collagen is one solution to support improved skin, hair and nails from the inside.

3. Have you been impacted during Covid? If so what have been some of the challenges (general)? How have you overcome these?

Golly – I had planned for months to launch in Feb 2020, and who knew that Covid19 was going to hit and lock us down 4 weeks after I launched! It really impacted my start and launch plans and of course sales, as by mid-March consumers started to pull back a lot of discretionary spending – people were losing jobs, incomes, ability to pay rent, many were suddenly working from home and some were home-schooling and managing new living arrangements with everyone in the house.

What should have been the start of my business with a steady sales projectory going up – stalled. I had to re-invest initial marketing and PR plans into other areas and pause a lot of planned activity… media was overrun with CoronaVirus so PR was out of the question, social and digital even started to change algorithms…. so I changed my messaging to be far ‘lighter’ in context and make it as much about engagement rather than only driving sales via product features and benefits.

4. What do you believe is the future of your industry? What would it look like in 2030?

My product is a new hybrid beauty product – a tea, a beauty product and a supplement. So…..the tea industry is in growth year on year, it’s projected to grow by 4.5% per year, and the beauty industry normally has a growth rate of around 5.5% per year, so by 2030 I’m expecting a lot more tea drinkers out there who have discovered the benefits of tea and who want to improve their skin, body, joints, tendons, hair and nails from collagen ingestion by 2030 with organic tea infused with collagen!
