The innovative, cutting edge exhibition is set to make a return to Melbourne, yes in the year of 2020. With an immersive collection of large, interactive installations and works that scatter the walls and floors of the gallery, there is no doubt that this exhibition will again be a blockbuster that will see to gallery visitors return for more than one viewing.
Eighty-Six projects from local and international artists and designers will come together to form the National Gallery of Victoria’s major collaborative exhibition, Triennial. For the second time, the NGV has announced that the triennial exhibition will run from December 19th to April 18th 2021. Thirty-Four of these works have never been seen by the public eye and have been specially commissioned by the NGV.
The gallery will house some of the world’s most recognised and adored artists and designers, with notable individuals such as, Jeff Koons, Refik Anadol, Porky Heger, Kengo Juma and Hannah Brontë.
We are likely to see some of these works reflect the year that has been, in humorous and unexpected ways. We will also see these works spark thought-provoking ideas on our approach to the challenges that we have faced in the past 12-months and speculations on what the future may look like. These vibrant pieces are centred around the themes of reflection, identity and major concerns that have now been made apparent in our contemporary society.
The Triennial exhibition will give us the exciting opportunity in a post-lockdown society to step into a dizzying and transformative space where we can reflect, be surprised and ask the difficult questions regarding how design and art will be represented and fit into a shockingly different world.
The NGV Triennial will run from December 19th – April 18th 2021 at NGV International, St Kilda Road, Melbourne.
