Happy Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras, Pancake Tuesday, etc.)! Whatever you call it, you’ve got 24 hours to shove as many pancakes as you can into your beautiful face-space. In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s how the holiday was named all those many decades ago.
No, probably not. But the spirit of the holiday remains the same. It’s the day before Lent, and whether or not you’ll be forgoing sweets or other vices for the next 40 days, today is a challenge. Today, we feast. Today, we mix the batter, get out the old spatula, and start stacking ‘em high. Today, we bring out the syrup, glazes, butter, cream, and spreads.
Today, we lick the spoon.
We’ve put together a few of our drooliest, most shove-able into mouths pancakes just for the occasion.
Happy Feasting!
Dear Lord, look at those crispy cinnamon crevices. Look at the consistency on that cream cheese icing. Look at the saliva on my keyboard. That’s ladylike.
If there’s anything better than flour and sugar bathing in melted butter in a pan, it’s adding sprinkles. Jimmies. Hundreds and thousands. Whatever you call them, they’re little rainbows of happy waiting to smear all over your face and give the game away.
Not your uni-style Pancake Day fodder. These are for the good silver and linens on the table. These are for tea with your pinky out and sugar cubes that are stirred with the tiniest of spoons. Or for picnics on the flat floor with a Harry Potter marathon playing in the background. You know, pick your delicious pancake-flavored poison.
Guys. These are covered in sugar. They are pancakes. That are then covered in sugar. That are then slathered in classic doughnut jam. But the best part? Pancakes are STACKABLE. Where you’d usually get one doughnut, you get FIVE PANCAKES ALL STACKED TOGETHER. This is actually the best holiday.
