TIME Magazine Names Their “Person” Of The Year

In light of the constantly developing news of sexual abuse in Hollywood, TIME Magazine elected to bestow their title of Person Of The Year to those who had some of the most important voices in the #MeToo movement. The magazine have dubbed these individuals The Silence Breakers, crediting them as “the individuals who set off a national reckoning over the prevalence of sexual harassment.”

Five women, including singer Taylor Swift, who sued a US DJ for the symbolic sum of $1 after an alleged groping incident, and actress Ashley Judd, one of the most vocal people against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, appear on Person Of The Year cover. The magazine have also given a voice to those with less of an audience, including Isabel Pascual, a woman who works picking strawberries in Mexico, and Adam Iwu, a corporate lobbyist from Sacramento.

Others included within the magazine but not featured on the cover include actor Terry Crews, who is bringing to light the fact that sexual harassment and abuse occurs against men in the industry, Rose McGowan, who has also been very vocal about Harvey Weinstein and abuse in Hollywood, a group of hotel workers from the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York City, and multiple anonymous women, who still fear revealing their identity.

As more and more allegations continue to emerge from entertainment industries both in Australia and around the world, it’s a poignant and important choice by TIME magazine.
