CrowdInk had the chance to sit down (virtually) with Jonita D’souza, founder of Exploring Femininity, a company that provides both digital and physical sacred space for women to reconnect with their feminine and sensual energy. She talks about her motivations for starting the business, advice for women in connecting with their divine energy, and tips on coping with turning a personal journey into a sustainable, thriving business.
CrowdInk: Tell us about your brand. How did you get started? What was your inspiration?
Jonita D’souza: Exploring Femininity is a company that provides sacred space (through online as well as offline workshops) for busy women to reconnect with their feminine and sensual energy so that they can experience more energy, enthusiasm and pleasure in their everyday life without getting burnt out.
Born and raised in the tropical islands of Andaman, India, I left home at the age of 15 to find my identity as an independent woman. Little did I know that the awareness that I was seeking would bring me to London, where I found the freedom and expression of my womanhood and thought that was all to be an independent woman of this 21st century. Soon I was caught in the rat race and competition of the Western world. I realized that women in the West have extreme pressure to look good in order to be taken seriously or noticed! I got burnt out doing the sexy and not really being the sexy. Eventually I found myself with severe illnesses which made me realise that I had to lose my societal identity to discover my real essence.
I somehow stumbled upon a women’s workshop called ‘Essence’ which sparked the journey of my lifetime. I spent the next 3 years immersing myself in the spiritual learnings of the divine feminine and discovering my real essence as a woman. In working with the spiritual practices around essence, I began to see how life was flowing around me. It became clearer why people do what they do. I felt connected to the world in a deeper manner. When I discovered my essence, I realised that my sacred purpose is to spread this work to women. This is why I founded the company Exploring Femininity as I realised that I was not the only woman feeling lost in the real essence of womanhood.
I made the decision to pass on this wisdom to as many woman around and invite them on a journey of exploring their femininity. 4 years ago, I founded the company ‘Exploring Femininity’ running monthly women’s New Moon circles, workshops and private coaching and will soon be launching her Feminine Empress Rising ™ programme, a lifestyle course for the woman of the 21st Century.
CI: What’s your number one tip for anyone starting a new business?
JD: Look at what you feel is missing in your life and go create it for yourself with all your heart and soul. Yes, it will be difficult, there will be challenges and it will require stepping out of our comfort bubble. But this will be the most fulfilling experience of your life. The most successful businesses have emerged out of the sense of this void of unfulfillment. When you solve this puzzle for yourself, you create the pathway for ‘others’ and these ‘others’ then become your clients.
CI: How do you spend your spare time?
JD: In my spare time, I like to let loose, play or create something, so it all depends on my mood – I practice belly dancing; I doodle, I cook new healthy recipes and I go for long walks in nature.
