The Victorian Government has announced their plans to erect security barriers around Melbourne CBD in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on London Bridge and a siege in the Melbourne suburb, Brighton.

Plans for the security barriers were first announced earlier this year following the Bourke Street Mall attack, with $10 million also being set aside for an automatic safety system in Melbourne that would go off in the event of a terrorist attack.

In the last few months, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has already gotten started n setting up security barriers around Melbourne, telling the media, “Constructing permanent bollards will take some time, [so] … I have directed that temporary bollards will be put in place at Federation Square and Bourke Street and a number of other sites,

“There’s no time to be wasted here when we think about London”, he continued, “and we think about other tragic events on the other side of the world and events very close to home, we need to take these steps”.

Citing security reasons, Premier Andrews said he would not be disclosing the locations of additional security barriers around the city, further saying, “I do want to stress though, we’re not about changing the way people go about their business. This is a beautiful city and we should cherish every part of it”.
