Elon Musk’s groundbreaking company, Starlink, has achieved a momentous partnership with Telstra, aiming to revolutionise services in remote areas of Australia.

Telstra has adopted Starlink’s innovative Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity to offer a bundle package of home phone service and Starlink broadband to rural regions that lack access to the National Broadband Network (NBN).

This collaboration provides Telstra customers with the added advantage of local technical support and the option for professional installation of devices.

Furthermore, the agreement extends connectivity solutions to businesses, offering a higher bandwidth option in areas where fixed and mobile connectivity is limited.

Expected to launch towards the end of 2023, this offering will be available to Telstra customers and businesses in Australia, as well as select international locations. Pricing and plan details will be disclosed in due course.

By integrating Starlink into its array of technologies, including NBN fixed broadband, mobile networks, and legacy copper and radio networks, Telstra enhances its voice and broadband services.

Telstra highlights that Starlink’s LEO satellite connectivity surpasses traditional geostationary satellites in terms of signal speed, leveraging a constellation of multiple satellites for improved performance.

With lower latency and faster download speeds, Starlink presents a superior option for services requiring real-time communication, such as voice and video calls. Telstra emphasises that this technology surpasses copper-based ADSL and caters to modern connectivity needs.

Telstra views this partnership as a significant stride towards bridging Australia’s digital divide. By extensively testing Starlink’s service in the field and developing a modem specifically tailored for Starlink connectivity, Telstra is thrilled to showcase the outcomes later this year.
