The carousel of Netflix shows keeps on turning, with old treasures leaving with final seasons and new favourites being born from Netflix’s ever-alive creative house you’ll find yourself never bored.

So here’s a quick rundown on what’s leaving our screens this year, and which ones are up to replace them.

It’s time to replace your old favourite with what’s being renewed.

IN: UMBRELLA ACADEMY

Renewed for Season 3

Get ready for another season of our favourite super-powered family. That’s right, Umbrella’s Academy is back for its third season following its successful second season debut in July last year. Where will their time-travelling briefcase take them next as follow the Hargreeves siblings through the next plot twist that awaits us.

The journey of Vanya’s chaotic power and the mysterious re-appearance of an older Ben in a new Sparrow Academy might just bring the end for our dysfunctional family. We’ll just have to wait and see, Netflix we are waiting patiently.

OUT: THE SOCIETY

Cancelled at Season 1

The apocalyptic teen drama Society took Netflix by a storm, but unfortunately, the potential second season has been cancelled by Netflix. This leaves the group of high-schoolers trapped in their town indefinitely with adults and a crumbling democracy. Due to unexpected budget increases triggered by the pandemic, Society won’t be the only show left to cliff-hangers and unanswered questions.

The abrupt cancellation leaves creator Chris Keyser disappointed at the unfulfilled potential of Society’s second season.  The show was set up to have five potential seasons, but who knows if Netflix can’t take the heat maybe another streaming service will step up.

IN: OUTER BANKS

Renewed for Season 2

The popular Young Adults series is set to take on another season as Outer Bank’s official Instagram account promises its second season.  The entire cast of Outer Banks is ready to return to set, following John B as he and friends set to the Bahamas to search for the missing millions.

And don’t forget about Ward, he has his eyes set on his gold and he is not about to let his daughter’s boyfriend stop him. Though it does complicate things a bit. We’ll see you soon back in Pogues, John B. Try not to drown before then.

OUT: ATYPICAL

Cancelled at season 4 + out now

Netflix says goodbye to our favourite brother, as Sam sets his sights for his last expedition. While it’s not an abrupt break-up like Society, the last season of Atypical see’s its natural ending. No rush, no fuss.   So join Sam on his last adventure as he explores college with his best mate Zahid.

Find out where Casey’s at with her rocky relationship with Izzie, and whether Doug and Elsa are determined to heal from their marriage. Keen viewers will be disappointed nonetheless at the news but plenty see that Sam has overcome his battles and is tethering towards the finish line. Nice knowing you Sammy, this sure wasn’t your typical show.

IN: NEVER HAVE I EVER

Renewed for Season 2 + out now

The show that’s taking our South Asian audience by storm is returning for a second season. Mindy Kaling is set to take Devi on her next high-school adventure, step-stoning on milestones as she fixates on her next boyfriend.  Join Devi and her friends as they navigate their way around their senior year of high school.

Exploring a new love triangle between Paxton and Ben Gross, Never Have I Ever will explore new threads and dreads as Devi learns the consequences of her actions. Season 2 will bring a new friend, two new boyfriends and perhaps a potential letter from Princeton.  Never Have I Ever been more excited, Devi we are keen to see you on our screens again!

OUT: SANTA CLARITA DIET

Cancelled at season 3

Drew Barrymore’s creepy drama is seeing the light as Netflix makes the decision to cancel the show after its third season. The Hammond family drama ends here, and the bodies will remain undisturbed and buried (much to Shelia’s relief).

Following Shelia and her zombie tendencies as she wreaks havoc on their quiet suburban lifestyle. The bewildered family will never find a cure for her condition while juggling the consequences of her less-than-vegan appetite.  The large fanbase is disappointed at the cancelled of Netflix’s most odd and quirky show.  Drew Barrymore your journey with Sheila ends here, but we remain keen to see you on other screens.

IN: YOU

Renewed for season 3

Joe’s murderous hobbies will continue in season 3, accompanied by the quirky likes of his new live-in girlfriend who apparently is just as crazy as he is. Maybe more. Fans are not surprised that Netflix has decided to continue the successful series that follows on the popular YA novels by Caroline Kepnes.

Played by popular actor, Penn Badgley he follows on his Gossip Girl stalker-hobbies as he shows interest in his new neighbour in the upcoming series. Although we’ll have to see whether Joe’s murderous tendencies or Quinn’s jealous strikes will win out in the end.  Stay tuned to Sera Gamble’s Instagram as she drops some teasers for the renewed season.

OUT:  JESSICA JONES

Cancelled at season 3

If you thought that the popularity of Jessica Jones would curb the cut ties between Marvel and Netflix then you thought wrong.  Jessica Jones’s journey will reach its last season much to the fan’s disappointment.  The five years of partnership with Marvel comes to a fruitful end, and we can’t say that the third season didn’t deliver. We navigate the crumbling morality of Trish and Jessica’s desperate bids to either save or kill her only surviving family, her mother.

The season will come to a tragic end, but would we expect a white picket fence and rainbows with Jessica Jones? If it doesn’t involve Winston Canadian then it isn’t her ending.  But who knows, Disney+ might have some plans up their sleeve as Marvel enters a hopeful multiverse.

IN: RAISING DION

Renewed for season 2

Michael B. Jordan is set to grace our screens once more as Raising Dion is promised for a second season. The sci-fi drama about the adorable Dion Warren has captured the hearts of all of us. And certainty Michael B. Jordan doesn’t hurt either.

We are set to explore more about the Warrens in eight hour-long episodes. Although the new season might take a while to develop as Covid-19 rampages sets, as the renewal was supposed to take place early in 2020. Despite the setbacks we are eager to see our favourite drama back on our screens, and where our super-powered buddy will take us next.

OUT: TRAVELERS

Cancelled at season 3

The Travelers are not set to return for their fourth season as Erin McCormack posts on Twitter of the show’s closure. The show is named complete after being cancelled by Netflix due to pandemic setbacks.

The profound ending that set audiences reeling will be all we get, unfortunately, as another promising show is pulled from support. Despite this, McCormack remains hopeful that another network will pick up right where they left off.

IN: LOVE IS BLIND

Renewed for seasons 2 and 3

If you’re a fan of Love is Blind then you are about to be set for life (or a couple of seasons) as the show is promised for at least two more seasons of drama and break-ups. With casting already undergone, it’s certain that Netflix is keen to continue the widely popular series that follows on the love-life’s of multiple people, a reformed Bachelorette if you will.

Although despite the early casting being underway, production within Covid-19 parameters might mean that set-up might be a little slow as the locations for the seasons remain a mystery.

OUT: THE GOOD COP

Cancelled at season 1

It’s official. After one season the Good Cop has been cancelled, much to the disappointment of fans and Josh Groban.  Creator Andy Breckman and fellow producers were setting up for season two before the fatal call from Netflix was made, cutting the cord.

Nevertheless, we hope to see more of Josh Groban on our screens soon, someone will snatch up that talent for another hit series soon enough.

IN: THE CIRCLE

Renewed for seasons 2 and 3

The theme for our lockdown binges is tethering on living vicariously through other people’s love lives. Should we be concerned? Not if it means watching a bunch of strangers compete for social status from our screens.

Easy entertainment? Check. Pretty much a sister show to Love is Blind, the Circle is set to entice a new audience with their upcoming second and third season in production. With Michelle Buteau set to host again, we can’t be there any sooner.

OUT: FRIENDS FROM COLLEGE

Cancelled at season 3

Nicolas Stoller announced the news that Friends From College will not be returning for its third season much to the disappointment of fans. The show was well-known and liked for its all-around humour and clever takes on college life.

Many have sought to rage-typing on Twitter for Netflix’s continual disappointments and frequent cancellations on popular shows. With fans still heated from the last episode, there are potential talks that another network might pick up on the popular show.

IN: QUEEN SONO

Renewed for season 2

A spy-thriller that entices audiences from all over the globe is set to take on another season in the riveting continent of Africa. Audiences are not surprised that their high screen time is rewarded with the renewal as the first season took to the screens by storm as it revealed the twists and turns of Safiya’s death.

The announcement was made early this April, and we are more than eager to follow Queen and her rampaging revenge. This drama couldn’t come sooner.

OUT: TUCA AND BERTIE

Cancelled at season 2

It seems like the flying adventures of Tuca and Bertie just was not meant to be as season two is now just sullied potential.  The creator Lisa Hanawalt took to social media to announce the news and the disappointment over the cancellation.

Despite this, the fanbase for the popular show remains alive and took to Twitter to display fan art and give Hanawalt their appreciation for the show despite its short life span.

IN: ELITE

Renewed for season 4

The murder-teen tv series was a huge hit so there is no surprise over Netflix’s news of an upcoming fourth season.  Our beloved cast members from Elite will return for the fourth time running, although there are rumours that some members were not invited back as their characters received resolutions by the season three finale.

The doomed YA soap drama took Netflix by the hand and has been carried eagerly since then. Despite the sad news that some characters will not be returning such as Lopez, fans are still eager to get their hands on the next season of the drama.
