Australia Post Adds Thousands of Jobs to the Market

Australia Post is recruiting more than 4,000 new employees around Australia in the lead up to Christmas. The announcement is welcomed by many Australians who have lost their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic. With hundreds of thousands of Australians unemployed as a result of the economic crisis, it can be expected that the competition for these jobs will be fierce.

There is said to be around 2,900 jobs in transport and deliveries, around 300 jobs in customer contact roles and around another 900 jobs across the Post Office network. Christmas is always the busiest period for Australia Post, but with the new challenge of border restrictions and an increase in online shopping, the extra hands will be much needed.

“This is a record-breaking recruitment drive for what we expect to be a Christmas unlike any we’ve had before in Australia Post’s history,” says Executive General Manager, People and Culture, Susan Davies. “In a year that has been incredibly challenging and impacted people in many ways, we are delighted to be inviting people to join us this Christmas as we deliver across the country.”

In 2019, Australia Post received over 23,000 applications for Christmas casual positions. In the earlier stages of the pandemic, more than 50,000 people applied for the 1,000 casual positions that were created to deal with the increased volume of parcels.
