Journaling: A Simple Tool to Become Your Own Guru

Journaling: How to Become Your Own Guru

In today’s busy world, we hardly find time to really dive deep into our emotions. If you, like me, are interested in reading self-development books, watching inspiring documentaries, and attending several personal development events/workshops, I am sure you’ve had the experience of several ‘aha’ moments during the process.

You make a note if it and want to further reflect upon your ‘aha’ moments sometime later when you have more time or even some spare time – soon this becomes another thing to be crossed off in the ever-increasing to-do list and it never gets done!

We hear a lot about remembering to slow down, to unplug from technology, and to find ways to de-stress – but we seldom do! We doubt our own decisions and feelings. We think that others have answers to our problems and worries.

When I began to practice this simple tool every day for 10 minutes, I realised that I had this wise woman inside of me who knew much more than I ever thought – I am talking about journaling.

Journaling is a great way to learn, explore, evaluate and dive within ourselves to reconnect with our feelings and gain intuitive wisdom on how to move forward in our everyday life. I discovered the magic of writing something down and seeing it happen from a very young age in my life.

The very act of writing has been scientifically shown to be a beneficial and creative process. By putting pen to paper, you are using the left side of your brain, which is critical and rational. This gives the right side of your brain a chance to access your feelings and intuition without any mental blocks.

So what is journaling?

Journaling is a free-writing process that explores and clarifies our thoughts and feelings giving us valuable self-knowledge; it’s also a good problem-solving tool. Journaling about traumatic events also helps us to process them by fully exploring and releasing the emotions involved.

Most people use journaling to vent, clear out unexpressed emotions, or capture their day. On the other hand, it can be used to dive deep into our desires and manifest them.

Some of the benefits of journaling include

“The more light you allow within you,
the brighter the world you live in will be.”
~Shakti Gawain

What happens to us is not as important as the meaning we assign to it. Journaling helps sort this out.

I have used journaling to connect with my inner wisdom, dissolve my emotional baggage and manifest jobs, a new home, and even my soul mate.

Now, I want to hear from you. Do you journal?
