A Story of Loss and Awakening

Loss and Awakening

My journey to wellness started in 2004 when I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This led to a paralysis in 2009, when I lost the ability to walk, wash and feed myself.

My world completely stopped and was turned upside down. It was a time of true loss that led to a miraculous awakening.

After treatment in the hospital, I was transferred into rehabilitation at Epworth Richmond in Melbourne – and the work began. I was there for 2 months.

I hit rock bottom; I had to ask myself “Am I ever going to walk again”? I was stretched to my limits emotionally and physically.

I was lucky to receive kinesiology every few days, while the fantastic neuro- physiotherapists worked hard teaching my body how to walk again. With a 50/50 chance of walking again, I had started running in 6 weeks.

I returned home, and as I began to research why I got so sick. I came across the Paleo diet and learned about the benefits of eliminating inflammation from my body, in an attempt to unravel the complexities of autoimmune disease.

I adopted this way of living, and what would be around the corner would change my world. Prior to this, I had to lay down most of every day recovering from the paralysis and experiencing MS symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, balance issues, pins and needles and intermittent weakness in my limbs.

The brain fog started to subside, which in turn made me happier and more motivated to keep exercising and eating well.

I learned all about the mitochondria, and their deficiency in autoimmune disease.
I now knew that I needed to nourish my body on a cellular level to achieve better results.
This inspired me to fine tune my nutrition requirements even further.

I went back to school to study for a Diploma in Sports Kinesiology (Sports Science / Kinesiology). I studied anatomy, physiology, motor learning, exercise, nutrition and Tradition Chinese Medicine techniques of Kinesiology.
Today, I combine all that western medicine has to offer with complementary medicine. Once I addressed my nutrition, my results became most profound. I have since made a full recovery and have managed to reverse many of my symptoms.

This is my seventh year of no new lesions, no disease activity or progression. In fact I feel healthier now than before I was diagnosed at 24 years old.
Treating the ‘cause’ has been the big key and understanding that I need to look at my body as a whole, not just in isolation.

I now know that I need to provide my body with the right environment for it to repair and thrive again.

Kinesiology helped wake my muscles back up to my brain (as they are connected via the nervous system). It also assisted with helping me to find happiness in my life again, after having to deal with so much change after my big MS attack in 2009.

“Lose what needs to be lost, to find what needs to be found.”

I have now dedicated my life helping others rebuild their lives, at my Sports Kinesiology Private Practice in Prahran, Melbourne called ‘Bend Like Bamboo’.
My team and I coach and educate our clients about nutrition, address gut health, toxicity and deal with the emotional links to disease and physical symptoms.
I personally teach you how to connect again and get your life back on track, physically, emotionally and biochemically.

I also enjoy speaking at events in my role as a MS Ambassador for MS Australia.

I consult with people with all types of Autoimmune Disease, symptoms of bladder urgency and frequency, depression and anxiety, fatigue, fertility and hormone imbalances, pain, sports injuries, fascia and gait rehabilitation.

The best way to describe Kinesiology is it’s like physical psychology. Think of Acupuncture and Counselling in one session without the needles!

90% of our brain capacity stems from the subconscious part of the brain, which is in charge of our memories, and past experiences. It is from these memories and experiences that our core beliefs, behaviours and habits and formed, usually from age of 0-6 years old.

It is important to realise that these beliefs and negative patterns that we can develop are often out of our awareness.

That is why Kinesiology is so fantastic.

It is this subconscious part of the brain that we access as Kinesiologists, via the integrity of the muscles when muscle testing.

Your muscles are connected to your brain via the Nervous System and run through multiple meridians according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

This allows us to connect with your entire human system, your mind and body.

Rather than someone else telling you what they think the solution is, a Kinesiologist will use muscle-testing to connect with you, your brain and consult the systems of you body for the solutions to bring your body back into balance again.

This avoids a trial-and-error approach with your health and wellness.
It also is ideal because the whole of you (thoughts, emotions, muscles, organs, hormones, nutrition and energy) is considered as we find a solution in an effort to bring the body back into balance.
Kinesiology can help you to access blocked emotions, blocked Qi and fear-based beliefs. These can limit you, and may ultimately cause physical symptoms and illness.
As a last resort these blocks appear physically in the body if they are not addressed, dealt with and resolved.

The results for me have been truly astounding. Your psychology becomes your biology.

I still have MS, but you wouldn’t think so now. Kinesiology helped me walk again after a paralysis in 2009 from a big MS attack. It also brought me back to myself, after so much loss and change.

Working with many clients now, I have been helping others improve the way that they eat. It became clear that we needed a simpler way.

With busy schedules, stress and even disability, it is often difficult to ensure you are eating the right food.
