3 Reasons You Should Dress Up for the Gym

You never know who you’re going to meet.

Some people may ask, “Why should you dress nicely when you go to the gym? You are just going to end up a sweaty mess anyway.” However, I, for one, am a strong advocate for dressing fashionably when you exercise and here are the reasons why:

  1. When you dress well, you feel confident.

There are so many brands that sell fashionable gym apparel these days such as Lululemon, Blogilates, Victoria’s Secret, Lorna Jane, Pinstokill, and Strussy – you’re spoilt for choice! When you dress well and look good, you feel good and are more likely to receive compliments from strangers about your outfit. Building your confidence and self-esteem may not have a direct correlation to happiness, but it definitely plays an important role. Be outrageous and wear those neon funky yoga pants that you have just been waiting to strut around in.

  1. You never know who you’re going to meet.

The world is full of possibilities and you never know who you’re going to meet – your ex, your future boyfriend, or your best friend. You deserve to dress and feel your best in every situation and that does not exclude the gym. Putting effort into the way you dress and the way you present yourself is an expression of creativity and self-love. People are naturally drawn to people who radiate positivity and fully embrace who they are as a person. Besides, dressing well doesn’t harm anybody.

  1. Gives you something to look forward to when you hit the gym next.

As a self-proclaimed gym bunny, I love going to the gym and working out because it gives my mind a little clarity, makes me happy, and keeps me fit. However, when my university workload gets heavier, my social life gets busier, and the weather turns colder, I find myself stuck in a slump and I start making excuses to avoid working out. Treat yourself to a little retail therapy of the gym apparel variety. Active-wear may not come cheap, but high quality and fashionable sports apparel are worth investing in the long run, because you will be wearing them very often.  I try to coordinate my outfits before I hit the gym now because it makes me hyped up for my next Zumba session.

After all, you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy yoga pants, which is like the same thing.
