The photoshoot featured the entire original cast except for Anthony Stewart Head, who played Rupert Giles, Buffy’s Watcher who gives her advice throughout the series, and also included show creator Joss Whedon—who, more recently, wrote and directed the Avengers movies, among other things.

During the interview portion of the EW photoshoot, Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy), recalled of the show, “I’m so incredibly proud of what we all created. Sometimes you need distance to really understand the gravitas of that,

“I appreciate everything about that job. As an actor, all you ever want to do is leave your mark — you want to do something that affects people”.

During the same interview, showruuner Joss Whedon, called the reunion “surreal” and further commented that, “For the most part, this is like a high school reunion but much worse because they all still look really great. I was hoping some of them would puff out a bit. But that did not take place”.

There will be four special edition covers of the magazine’s April edition, three of which Sarah Michelle Gellar posted in Instagram, one just of her, the second of her and James Masters (Spike), and third of her and David Boreanaz (Angel). The fourth is of a solo Boreanaz.

While it seems this reunion was simply a celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the show’s premiere and not a “hey, let’s bring the show back and do a revival season”, you never know what might happen in the future.

The magazine and full interview will hit shelves in April.
