Yes, you read the title right. Anthony Vaccarello is the new creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, effective immediately. Over the past four years, Hedi Slimane did such an amazing job in transforming the brand image and bringing financial fortunes to Yves Saint Laurent. People couldn’t help and compare these two brillant designers: What are Anthony’s thoughts on this?

“I don’t think desginers have to be overexposed. I’m not here to take selfies. I do not care.”

In order to fully concentrate on his first collection for the house, spring/summer ’17 this October, he paused his namesake label which he started in 2009. As you look through his own collection over the years, I couldn’t help to be moved by his work. He’s the man who really believes in what he’s doing. He has returned again and again to this one specfic style: sharp tailoring, legs, black, leather, which isn’t a huge departure from Mr.Slimane’s aesthetic. Except that Vaccarello’s designs are agressively sexy and less historic. He just fits right in for Yves Saint Laurent.

He’s the man that really prioritises classic fabrics and acknowledges the importance of it. Real wool, real cashmere. “If I ever run out of this stuff, I suppose I would stop designing and say NO THANK YOU.”

Kering CEO Francesca Bellettni stated that, “Anthony’s unique style will greatly express the maison’s creative signature and fashion authority.”

Maybe Anthony Vaccarello is the perfect fit for the house. People are underestimating him. His unique aesthetic will probably bring a dose of fresh air to the house and his first collection in October will probably blow up the fashion industry. Just like what Raf Simons did with Dior in his first collection.

I, for one, am excited to see what Vaccarello brings to the table, the runway, and the fashion world at large.
