It’s Not the Dresses; It’s the Artists

Taylor Swift Wins Six Nominations (Image Source abc.net)

It’s that time of the year where the music industry lets it’s hair down and celebrates the hard work they have done at the American Music Awards.

While the paparazzi may be going crazy over the celebrities in their ridiculous outfits, and how Harry Styles looks so different to the other One Direction members, this is not the reason why we really should be watching the American Music Awards.

While I could talk about the exploits of Justin Bieber, and what I think he will do at the AMA after party, the serious part of the 43rd annual American music Awards is who will walk out with the “Artist of the Year” award. Here are the nominees for the Artist Of The Year:

Luke Bryan

The American Country music star is as nice a mix of contemporary country as anyone in this decade. His light husky, country voice blends in very well with the contemporary country music he has placed himself in. His fifth studio album, Kill The Lights, debuted number one in the Billboards 200 charts.

Ariana Grande

While she has spent most of the year touring in North America and Europe, with stops in South East Asia, she has had a very successful tour in leading up to her third studio album, Moonlight, due to be released in early 2016. Her previous album, My Everything, was an amazing success for the 22-year-old with smash hits “Bang Bang” and “Love Me Harder” making her a household name, selling 400,000 copies in the first week alone.

Nicki Minaj

While also spending most of 2015 on her solo international tour, The Pinkprint tour, Nicki Minaj’s third studio album, The Pinkprint really was her strongest album to date, exceeding sales of 250,000 copies during the first week alone, and debuting at No. 2 on Billboards 200.

Taylor Swift

Every male’s current celebrity crush, Taylor Swift had a magnificent 2014 and 2015, with her fifth studio album, 1989, selling nearly 1.3 million copies in the first week alone, and debuting number one in the Billboards 200 chart, Swift has been shaking off the competition by being on the biggest international tour of the year. Going to North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, the “Blanked Space” star has been an extremely successful performer in 2015.

One Direction

Oh, they light up my world like nobody else. One Direction had massive success with the fourth studio album, Four, with major success of single “Steal My Girl.” While they lost poor old Zayn in March 2015, they have gotten passed that little thing by recording and releasing the new album Made In The A.M, which was released in November 2015. 1D may be having a hiatus, but they are not leaving without a fight.
