What to do When You’re Feeling Stuck

We all get stuck from time to time. When we feel stuck we feel powerless, confused, frustrated and a bit lost. It’s no wonder that many of us feel this way given the technological age we live in. When we’re constantly fed more and more information, it’s easy to become completely overwhelmed and end up procrastinating or becoming frustrated when it seems like you’re getting nowhere.

So what can we do when we’re feeling stuck? How do we get moving again? In my experience this old adage rings true: If you want things to change, you have to change.

If you want to “fix” something in one area of your life then it can’t be fixed or at least affected when you make a positive change in another area.

For instance if your business isn’t going so well, start an exercise routine or class and focus on your diet/health. Or if your finances aren’t stacking up, start working on seeing your friends more, building that social life or getting back the spark in your primary relationship. Or if your health isn’t up to par, start focusing on your finances, savings, et cetera.

While for some this may appear to be me advocating you take your eye of the ball, I’m not saying completely forget about the other thing, I’m saying that by shifting your focus to an area of your life you can easily uplevel, or by putting in the effort to see gains in one area, you’ll automatically see the benefits in other areas too.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

If you can’t see how to create positive change in the area you’re currently stuck in then shift your focus, attention and energy to uplevelling somewhere else.

If it feels as if you’re stuck in all areas then there still has to be one area of your life where you excel at making change or find it easier to have impact.

There’s plenty to choose from: love life, spiritual life, community life, friends, skills, intellectual life, career or business, finances, health/wellbeing, home.

Make love, meditate, give to charity, invite friends around, sign up for a class, read a book, start a savings plan, work out, declutter. Any symbolic gesture you can muster will have an impact. Always.

I truly believe in the power of this. It’s why when I cleaned up my diet almost 10 years ago that I saw massive improvements in all areas of my life. What you clean up in one area cannot affect everything else.

So today you have permission to stop fretting over that one area of your life and shift focus to upleveling somewhere else that you know will have impact.

Things will change when you change.
