The cast of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer recently reunited for a reunion photoshoot and interview for Entertainment Weekly’s April 2017 edition of the magazine to celebrate the 20 th anniversary of the show’s premiere in 1997.
Well, it has recently been announced the poplar vampire show will be returning for an 8 th season—just not on TV.
The “season 8 return” is to come in the form of young adult novel series titled Slayer and be put out by Simon & Schuster, Inc.—an American publishing company—and will be a direct continuation of the season 7 finale episode ‘Chosen’.
While not many details are known about the book series reboot, the basic plot will follow on from where the TV show ended with Willow waking other slayers up to join the battle against evil and give Buffy a rest and will pick up a few years later with the emergence of “the one true slayer”.
This is not, however, the first time Buffy has been continued past season 7, with a comic book series being published by Dark Horse from seasons 8-11, which went down a different story line from what Slayer is likely to take.
Taking on the first story of the new Slayer books is The Darker Trilogy’s Kiersten White, who tweeted her excitement, saying, “I'm not even going to pretend to be chill about this. And you KNOW when offered me SLAYER, I whispered "I am the Chosen One."”
Also on her appointment as the writer of the new books, the first one at least, White also expressed how determined she was to do the show and its creator Joss Whedon justice, saying, “'Buffy the Vampire Slayer's' influence on my own writing can't be underestimated. When my agent asked if I was interested, I basically said, 'Every book I've ever written was an audition for this'”.
“It's still stunning to me that I get to contribute to a world that has been part of my imagination for more than half my life, she continued “Dreaming up my own slayer is one of the most surreal experiences of my career so far. I'm so excited to share her with diehard Scoobies and new fans alike”.
The first novel in this new book series is set to be released in 2018.
