Fashion Editors Reflect on The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada

When you watch a movie, do you ever wonder just how true it really is?

If it’s a biography or documentary, then sure, it’s safe to assume the events of the film ACTUALLY happened. But if it’s fictional, the same could be said for the film’s events not being true, right?

Maybe?

11 years after it was released, fashion editors are reflecting on The Devil Wears Prada, which starred Anne Hathaway as the main character Andrea “Andy” Sachs, the “unfashionable” junior personal assistant to Meryl Streep’s title character (the devil in Prada) Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine, and how accurate it was to the real fashion industry.

Well, it seems that, depending on who you ask, characters like Streep’s Miranda Priestly and Emily Blunt’s fashion forward Emily Charlton (Miranda Priestly’s other personal assistant), who can belittle you, define your entire being, and guess your dress size with a single glance, really do exist.

For example, the associate editor of V Magazine, Landon Peoples, said that, ‘while he loves The Devil Wears Prada’, “you will encounter every personality represented in that film—the nice ones, the mean ones, the backstabbers, and people who will really help you and want you to succeed”.

However, Lauren Caruso, site director at StyleCaster, said, “I don’t think The Devil Wear Prada is an accurate take on the fashion industry at all! Of course, there are long hours and it’s a lot of hard work… but it’s not nearly as catty as it was portrayed”.
