CrowdInk had the chance to sit down (virtually) with Deb Carr, founder of Sydney Chic, to find out how she started her business and what advice she would give to aspiring entrepreneurs.

CrowdInk: Tell us about your brand. How did you get started, what was your inspiration?

Deb Carr: Sydney Chic is a lifestyle blog about Sydney. We cover food, events, style, technology, theatre, film and things to do in Sydney.

I had been blogging for a number of years on inspiration/motivation as I had a speaker bureau business. It was in late 2013 I had the idea to do a Sydney Lifestyle Blog and to be honest, I’m blown away at how fast it grew. I do all the webwork and marketing myself so it takes a lot of my time. As well as blogging, I teach other small business owners social media marketing.

CI: How do you spend your free time?

DC: What’s that? Seriously though, because I love what I do so much I don’t feel it’s work and I don’t work 9-5 I work hours that suit my lifestyle. Mostly on free time it will be walking, going to the gym and eating out and enjoying time with my partner. In saying that, I am invited to a lot of events and restaurant reviews, so I’m always out socialising. My favourite free time is when I take off to the Mid North Coast for a few days to spend with my family, I love that!

CI: What’s one fashion accessory that you can’t live without?

DC: Ankle boots! I love them even for summer.

CI: What’s your number one piece of styling advice for women?

DC: Wear clothes that make you feel good. Keep to your own style and own it!
