The annual Ballarat Cycle Classic is coming up on Sunday the 16thof February in an effort to raise funds for The Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute, a regional Victoria cancer research facility that was inspired by a young cancer patient Fiona Elsey whose memory lives on with her dream of a regional cancer research centre becoming a reality.

The annual Ballarat Classic raises funds that go directly to the cancer research institute including all registration fees. There is a range of activities throughout the program, including mountain bike trails and family fun rides and if you aren’t into cycling the lake walk and run around the picturesque Lake Wendouree is a popular option. All activities in the program start between 7am to 9:45 am so make it a day out and grab a coffee at Racers or have a picnic at the botanical gardens later on in the day.

It is a great day out whether you are participating or supporting someone from the sidelines, it is a chance to bring the community together to fund ongoing research that continues to make contributions to cancer research. This year the goal is to reach $300,000 that will go towards establishing a new Breast cancer research program in 2020.

Breast cancer accounts for over 3,100 deaths per year so head up to Ballarat for the day and register or support one of the riders by donating to help critical research that could help save lives.
