We all enjoy a well organised and nicely decorated house, don’t we? But although we wish we could make our house worthy of a feature in Vogue Living, we sometimes need to compromise and opt for the less expensive and more practical options, especially if your living space isn’t as big as a mansion, just like you hoped it would be by now.
So what do you do when you want to buy chic looking furniture while also saving money?
You go to Kmart.
Because space is always an issue and nobody wants to have a house cluttered with items that purely serve a decorative purpose, here are five essential pieces of furniture you will find at your nearest Kmart. 1) Pegboard with Wooden Shelves, $29:
You can use it as an inspirational board or organiser, and decorate it however you please.
2) White Stool, $12:
Use it as a side table next to your bath or in the living room. You put it everywhere around the house, really.
3) Patterned Canister, $5:
Get a few with different patterns and use them as utensil holders, makeup brush holders, planters… whatever needs holding in a pretty container.
4) Rectangular Wire Basket, $7:
You can put your shoes in these baskets and hide them under your bed; you can hang them on the wall and put fruit and veggies in them, or you can hang them on the wall and use them as paper organisers.
5) Corkback Placemat, $2:
This one’s easy. Just grab a few placemats with the patterns that you like most and that suit the colour palette in your room and use them as wall art, hanging them in the best looking cluster you can come up with.
