An announcement is imminent, as Minister for Health Jill Hennessy, and Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford gear up to inform the state of the new changes to medicinal cannabis, and it’s availability to young patients in Victoria.

The changes will support children suffering illnesses to access the treatment, and it will take effect shortly after the announcement.

The callout for easier access to cannabis came after dozens of patients suffering from severe epilepsy where treated successfully. This occurred after the Victorian government introduced a treatment scheme, the first of it’s kind in Australia.

This will contribute an approximate $90 million to Victoria’s economy per year, once it is properly implemented and underway, including up to 500 new jobs.

By 2028, it is expected up to 166,000 patients will have accessed the drug for medical purposes.
