In mid-January this year, a driver went on a rampage through Bourke Street mall, killing six and injuring 37 others.

Now, Dimitirus Gargasoulas, has appeared in court via video link on unrelated charges to the January 20 incident, and made his first comments on that day.

During his court hearing, he made several unprompted remarks, despite his lawyer trying to speak over him and telling him that members of the media were in the courtroom.

Amongst his comments, he first said to the judge, “Your Honour, I wanted to tell you something”, then spoke about the Bible and the Koran, and said “Aboriginal law is identical to Muslim law”.

Other comments he made were, “All the law is illegal”, “Your Honour, did you know the Muslim faith is the correct faith according to the whole world? And I am not guilty”, and finally, “I am the saviour”, before the video link was cut off.

In addition to the charges he is facing for the Bourke Street Mall incident, where he is set to appear in court in December for six murder charges and 28 charges of attempted murder and conduct endangering life, he is also set to appear in court in May for charges of theft and driving on the wrong side of the road to evade police in At Kilda, amongst other charges, that he committed in late last year and early this year.
