Baby Driver

Baby Driver is one of the hottest movies of the year, and with good reason. Starring a stellar line-up including Ansel Elgort, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx, the film has been making waves amongst critics and moviegoers alike. The film, which follows Elgort as a getaway driver named Baby, has been lauded for its soundtrack, which is all about the music Baby chooses as he makes his escape. But it’s how Baby listens to music that has seen a surprising upswing in sales of a humble (and once assumed) device.

Since the movie often flashed visuals of the iPod, sales on eBay and other second-hand listing websites for iPods have skyrocketed. Online iPod sales have skyrocketed more than 900% since the film hit theatres, and while we’re all much more accustomed to just plugging into our phones when we’re out and about, film buffs and Ansel Elgort fans alike seem to be making the switch back to iPods, the standalone MP3 player of yesteryear.

This might be a bit of a kick in the teeth for Apple, who discontinued production of iPods in 2016, but we’ve got a feeling it’s the semi-retro vibe of Baby’s trusty iPod that is boosting sales and plugging people back in.
