Travelling alone may seem like a daunting task, but it may be one of the best things you ever do. Read on to find out how solo tavel can change your life.

  1. Freedom!!!

Sure, travelling with a friend or with family is always fun, but solo travelling is always the best way to experience and explore a new country or destination. You plan out your adventures without needing to compromise and you can set your own pace. Going solo gives you the freedom to move around as you please without having someone else jiving your vibe – yes, even the best of friends can hold you down!

  1. Personal Growth

From the moment you decide to book your flights, to choosing your accommodation, and even just landing at the airport in a new country – you’re doing everything alone. Having to interact with locals for direction isn’t always a piece of cake and sometimes it gets frustrating to have to rely on yourself to work everything out. However, after a day or two of independence, you’ll find these tasks to be a no brainer and every little task that you complete by yourself will have you feeling like a winner. Nothing feels better than realising that even outside of your comfort zone, you’re still just as capable – maybe even more than when you left!

  1. Budgeting

Everyone has a different expectation when travelling overseas. When travelling with a companion or company, what suits you may not suit others. Perhaps you’d rather go exploring around while your companion is more interested in the tax-free sales and then your interests clash. It happens from even the very start when you have to compromise with flights and accommodation and not everyone is happy with the results. When travelling solo, all those unnecessary compromises disappear as you budget everything for yourself. It makes the whole trip breezier and you don’t have to worry about forking out money on extra things that you’re not actually invested in.

  1. Meeting New People

Leaving your home to go visit another country, even for a two week trip, is not a decision that should be made hastily. Again, if you’re budgeting for accommodation or looking for that perfect tour, you can do it by yourself and meet new people along the way who will most likely become friends for life. Surround yourself with people who are actively seeking that same level of adventure as you so that your solo trip becomes more social and fun. Perhaps a summer love may even be applicable in this situation. (A personal anecdote is during my time in New York, I booked an Airbnb thinking that I would just use it as a space to dump my things – turns out that the host was the best I could ever ask for who took me around and we’re now friends for life!)

  1. It’s Liberating

Travelling solo makes you a better and smarter person – socially, culturally and even environmentally, you’ll start to think in a more open-minded manner from the way you dress, eat, or even behave. If you’ve always been more of a shy person, travelling solo makes you open up in situations that you might be uncomfortable in and teaches you that even the most daunting things can’t stop you. A successful trip by yourself will inspire you to tackle even more obstacles in your life that you’ve never considered climbing over before. Various obstacles that may or may not have been planned will challenge you and you’ll be liberated by how you respond to them.

So get your passport ready and book your flights to explore the world the way you want, all by yourself.
