Alanis Morissette’s New Version of Ironic Will Make Your Day

When you think you know the lyrics, but then they’re given an update (isn’t it ironic? don’t you think?)

Does the name Alanis Morissette ring any bells for anyone? If it doesn’t, listen to her song Ironic, and we’re sure the tune will emerge from the deep recesses of your memory. It was released in 1995, and, as if we didn’t like it enough already, 21 years later she’s made it even more relatable.

She recently performed the updated version of the lyrics on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Sung as a duet with the host, her lyrics definitely hit us on a deep level. Our favourite picks are; “they announce a new iPhone the day after you buy it”, and “it’s a free ride, but your Uber’s down the street.” We feel you, Alanis.

Although it’s not so much ironic moments she’s describing, but more “doesn’t-it-suck-when?” moments – they did get one right when they pointed it out (“It’s singing Ironic, but there are no ironies”). It doesn’t look like we mind that much, though, seeing as the video has already gained over 10 million views.

And if you didn’t already know about James Corden, then we’re pretty sure you’ll start to like him after enjoying some high quality ‘scatting’ at the end of the song.
