Does Anyone Care About the Logies Anymore?

The Australian Logies has been called Australian TV’s “night of nights”.

It’s the night for Australia’s best and brightest television talent to be rewarded for their hard work.

And it is heavily broadcasted on.

If you check any news website the next day you’re sure to find articles on the winner of the Gold Logie, the best frocks of the night, and controversial jokes made by presenters.

But for all the media hype, does the Australian public actually care about The Logies?

I don’t think so.

Last night, The Logies gained a total of 972,000 views, which sounds like a massive number, but it’s not.

In the same night, more people watched My Kitchen Rules with 1,260,000 views. Audiences even watched the news more with Seven and Nine News both gaining over 1,000,000 views.

So here’s my question to you: When was the last time you bought a TV week? Or voted for your favourite TV personality to win an award?

For most people, they can’t remember.

It’s not that we don’t have plenty of Australian talent, but it just doesn’t seem to be translating with Australian audiences anymore.

It could be due to less and less people watching free to air TV. But for me, it’s because The Logies has become a lame, daggy event.

I saw snippets of the 2017 Logies. Peter Helliar and Kat Stewart mocking the ‘jacketgate’ fiasco, Dave Hughes opening speech and Rebecca Judd being match made with Tony Jones.

I found it incredibly cringey and uncomfortable to watch. And frankly, I was thankful I hadn’t watched the full ceremony.

Nowadays, The Logies Awards is something I would rather skip on. And it seems the rest of Australia feels the same way.
