Alexander Wang has announced that his Fall 2018 collection, due to be shown in February, will be his last confined by the traditional fashion calendar. Instead he will be holding his own shows in June and December.
The changes are purportedly designed to better serve the customers, with the new dates more closely aligned with the pre-collection schedule.
‘Our consumer will be better served through the new system,’ Alexander Wang CEO Lisa Gersh says in a press release. ‘The innovative approach reframes product on the month that it ships, rather than the outdated labels of ‘Resort’ or ‘Pre-Fall,’ giving our customers more relevant and consistent merchandise throughout the year.’
The decision has already been approved by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), who according to Vogue, has been exploring the idea of fashion shows around June and December – on top of the current February and September slots.
