There are so many amazing movies from the 1980’s so I have only selected a few for this list!
1. Pretty in Pink (1986)
In this Cinderella-like tale unrequited love, the prom and an adorable best friend are the perfect combination to make this an excellent teen movie, Pretty in Pink is definitely an 80’s classic. Starring Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy and a very young James Spader, this movie is the perfect chick flick for a night in with the girls.
2. Some Kind of Wonderful (1987)
Here is yet another love-triangle centred 80’s movie that will melt your heart.
Here’s a bit of fun fact trivia for you – this movie was apparently written by John Hughes to repair the significant changes the film studio made to his earlier film “Pretty in Pink”. Without giving away any spoilers to either film, you should be able to see the significant difference between the two endings of these very similar movies.
3. Weekend at Bernie’s (1989)
For those who are looking for a lighter movie to watch on a Saturday night why not invite a few friends over and watch Weekend at Bernie’s? In this hilarious comedy film, what could go wrong when their millionaire boss invites young Richard and Larry to his beach house for the weekend? – A lot, apparently. It’s definitely worth a watch!
4. Sixteen Candles (1984)
Starring the sweet sixteen-year-old Molly Ringwald, this movie hilariously depicts the struggles of being a teenager, handling crushes and trying to fit in at high school.
5. Back to the Future (1985)
This action-packed blockbuster depicts Marty McFly’s efforts to get back to the future after accidentally travelling back in time to the 1950’s. This Steven Spielberg classic is definitely a must see family movie and after you finish this one there are still two more excellent sequels to see!
6. The Breakfast Club (1985)
A must see for every teenager! “A brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, and a criminal” are all locked in the school library for detention one Saturday afternoon and the results are as hilarious as they are thought provoking and eye opening.
7. Ghostbusters (1984)
Who you gonna call? In this original Ghostbuster film, this classic comedy provides all of the original scares, laughs and action a great movie needs! With plenty of green slime to spare! Starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.
8. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
If you are struggling with the thought of going to work or school tomorrow you might want to put this film to the top of you watch list! Teenager Ferris Bueller enlists his best friend and his girlfriend to help him skip school for the day and avoid capture from the school principal and his sister Jeanie.
