Spring is now approaching, so it’s important to get a good, cool-looking pair of shades to protect your eyes. Eyewear is actually less superficial than it may appear to be, protecting you against harmful UV rays, like a kind of sunscreen for your eyes. The problem is that in a crowded market it can be difficult to find your way around, so here are 4 tips that’ll help you find the perfect pair.

  1. Try frame shapes that contrasts your face shape

Sunglass frame shape will actually alter the way in which your features are perceived so try frames that will contrast your look. For example, if you have a square head and you wear a round frame, the frames will soften any facial harshness. Conversely, if you were to pop some square frames onto a square face, the face will appear squarer than it actually is. In saying that, this is purely a styling rule and rules were meant to be broken!

  1. Look for metal in the arms

When looking for plastic or acetate sunglasses, try and find out if they have metal supports running through the arms. The metal will ensure a higher level of quality and will make the arms easier to adjust.

  1. Buy the right size

A lot of people don’t even realise that glasses come in different sizes. When trying a pair on, you want the frame to just reach the edge of your face. If the size isn’t right, ask the sales assistant if they stock additional sizes.

  1. Choose a lens colour that works for you

Different coloured lenses have slightly different effects on your vision. Grey and green are the most common lens colours and are good for general use, as neither alters your colour perception and both help reduce glare. Brown is also a great option for keen drivers, as it enhances your contrast and depth perception, although it does make the world look like a wonderful sepia photograph!
