For 17 years now the Portsea Polo has been one of the most anticipated events of the social calendar. The event marks the start of the year with socialites and local celebrities descending on the Peninsula for the occasion.
This past weekend was no different as a crowd of about 6000 well dressed revellers made their way down to Point Nepean to enjoy the Mornington Peninsula’s relaxed take on the Spring Carnival.
Although the weather was forecast as gloomy skies and strong winds, this wasn’t enough to keep people away, some chartering boats and helicopters to make their great entrance to the first big event of the season.
As the day continued the clouds parted slightly letting bursts of sunlight shine down on those enjoying a day filled with music, friends, drinks and horses.
Held in mid January, the Portsea Polo symbolises the beginning of the social calendar for many. On the cusp of the Australian Open and marking the end of the summer holiday period for those going back to work, the event is one with a lot of excitement.
Many polo goers consider it to be more relaxed and easy going, but just as fun as the Spring racing carnival, as there’s not as much hype and pressure leading up to it and the dress code is slightly more laid back and casual.
While the polo is meant to be about the horses, the main attraction on Suaturday seemed to be fashion with socialites arriving ready to show off their perfectly planned outfits to the crowds.
Fashionistas took to the grounds in the effort of getting the perfect picture, while celebrities lined the many marquees posing for shots and showing off designer frocks and accessories.
Setting the tone for one of the biggest colour trends of the day was Bec and Chris Judd, who had a marquee for their sportswear brand Jaggard. It was here that the all white theme encouraged a sea of white influencing the colour scheme for this year’s event.
Although white was a major winner for guests, lace, flowing gowns, jumpsuits and coloured accessories were also well spotted around, a popular choice for many making a statement.
Even though the Portsea Polo has wrapped for another year, the social calendar has only just begun so get ready because 2017 looks to be one of the most exciting years yet.
