“50% of the plastic we use, we use just once and throw away” – EcoWatch

A few close friends of mine have recently made the switch to becoming vegetarian, vegan and even pescatarian. Let’s just say there was a lot of documentary binging on Netflix (After the Flood, The Truth About Meat etc.).

All of this has exposed me to a very new and completely different world. Where I’m researching the daily products I use, and finding myself very disappointed by the high number of companies that test their products on animals or say they don’t but sell their products in China (to sell in China you must legally test your product on animals).

Accredited Companies like the Body Shop, 3ina, Lush, OGX and even Australis are cruelty free. And even though it is difficult to make a change on beauty products, trust me because MAC has the best foundation for brown skin (Why!!!), it’s better to support companies that place a value on caring ethically, and honestly they are better for your skin and hair. Here is a list of accredited cruelty free companies.

My research has also taught me about the extreme danger of plastic.

Did you know that practically every piece of plastic that has been made still exists? It takes 500 – 1,000 years for plastic to degrade. We live in a world where plastic is produced for its one-use purposes. Think about the amount of plastics products that are used in our daily lives that we throw away after only one use: plastic bottles, plastics bags, plastic utensils, product packaging and more.

There is enough plastic thrown away each year to circle the earth four times, and the plastic that ends up in our oceans is killing one million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals each year.

So what are some solutions that we can make?

Re-use plastic!!!! This includes shopping bags and water bottles
Shop ethically
Look for alternatives to plastics items (bring a coffee mug to the café)
Use Ecosia instead of Google because they plant trees around the world using their revenue.
Spread the word
