After a successful run with board game pop up Stop 17, the team behind Queen of Spades decided to make to move to something more permanent. But this isn’t your run of the mill café that happens to have Uno and Jenga.
There has been a resurgence of interest in tabletop gaming in recent years, partly due to internet series Tabletop on Geek & Sundry hosted by Will Wheaton. Combined with the level of evolution that board games has under gone in the past 10 years, designers are pushing the limits of what tabletop gaming can be.
Queen of Spades offers traditional games like Battleship and Guess Who, but for those who are looking to dive into the more complicated and elaborate options there is also Settlers of Catan and Mysterium. Veterans or those up for a serious challenge can even try their hands at the Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings board games.
If the included manuals aren’t cutting it, trained hosts are on-hand to explain the rules of the more involved games.
Coffee from Bean Cartel, and a selection of wines, beers and cocktails, provide sustenance for marathon game sessions. On the food menu you’ll find burgers, meatballs and plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free offerings.
Looking to try your hand at board games, or looking for a fun night out with friends? Look no further than Queen of Spades. They might just be the ace up your sleeve.
