Windy Weather Ahead: Southerly Change to Bring High Speed Winds to Melbourne

Melbourne top temperature to reach 32 degrees around 1pm before a very strong southerly change.

Damaging winds and expected storms.

The windy weather has hit, at the moment Melbourne is experiencing strong winds.

The current temperature is 32 degrees, but that high is expected to drop after 1pm when stormy weather will form and southerly winds will create a sudden drop in temperature, creating a cool change as the temperature plummets 10 degrees in just one hour.

On Sunday night the city sweltered though an average 20-degree day and night, it was due to the humidity in the air that has been a quite unusual norm for the city in the past week. The temperature had dropped a little at 11pm only to rise again to 24.2 degrees at 6am this morning.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology forecasters, due to the fierce winds and expected thunderstorms, by 2pm this afternoon the temperature is expected to have dropped to 22 degrees.

Strong wind gusts, developing in the west this morning and moving across the state, could reach up to 100km/h.

The Bureau has issued a severe weather warning for strengthening northerly winds, saying there may also be thunderstorms in central and eastern parts during the afternoon.

“We’re forecasting gusts around the 90km/h mark, possibly as high as 100, winds at that strength are enough to do some damage to trees and blow loose items around”.

The strongest winds will be felt in Melbourne, Ballarat, Geelong, Warrnambool, Seymour, Maryborough, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

However those winds should reduce rapidly after the cool change later today.
