Janet Jackson broke the internet with her pregnancy news. The singer announced that she is officially pregnant, at the age of 49. Is she about to learn the true meaning of “No Sleep?”
Multiple outlets claim the singer, who turns 50 on May 16, is pregnant with her first child. Entertainment Tonight was first to report the news, while a source told E! News that Jackson is reportedly in her second trimester of pregnancy after successfully working with a fertility specialist.
Janet Jackson previously sparked speculation that she was expecting when she postponed her Unbreakable World Tour so she and her husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana, 41, could focus on ‘planning our family.’ This was announced in a video posted to Twitter in early April.
While some Tweeters have expressed concern about Jackson’s child being born with birth defects, Dr. Ghadir explains that risks have to do with the age of the egg. “If it’s Janet’s own egg at the age of 49, she has a much higher chance of having a baby born with chromosomal abnormalities such as Down’s Syndrome,” says the fertility specialist at Southern California Reproductive Center. “If she’s using an egg donor, the risks of having these chromosomal abnormalities is very low.”
Jackson’s new single “Dammn Baby” was released earlier this week. Of postponing the tour she has stated, “Please, if you can try and understand it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders. I have not forgotten about you. I will continue the tour as soon as I possibly can.”
Jackson is joining a special club of moms – some of them fellow celebs – in their late forties. Geena Davis gave birth to twins at age 48. Sophie B. Hawkins welcomed her daughter at 50. Halle Berry delivered her son at 47. Kelly Preston gave birth to a boy at 48.
You go, moms.
