Music Festivals are a must do for summer. As the sun greets itself once more, so do countless acts and performers excited to play for loyal fans. If you haven’t been to a festival before, or considering what one is for you, here is a list of some of the best Australia has to offer this summer.
Origin NYE
When: 31st December 2016
Where: Perth, WA
Origin is Perth’s most popular NYE event and is best known for its hip hop, electronic and drum and bass acts. The crowd tends to be an intense one, especially during the rowdy nights of the end of the year. But, while recent line ups have still been fairly recognized, it’s the 2017 line up that has made it a must-see for all those able to make it.
Origin NYE will feature huge performances from Die Antwoord, Chance the Rapper and A$AP Rocky.
Falls Festival
When: End of December until start of January.
Where: Lorne VIC, Fremantle WA, Byron Bay NSW, Marion Bay TAS
Falls festival is a popular camp out show for many, and this year is lucky to have given Fremantle the option to experience it as well. Falls is a festival for those looking to escape their busy lifestyle and enjoy a few days of relaxing, and enjoying alternative tunes.
A few of the artists you can see at this festival include The Avalanches, London Grammar and Childish Gambino.
Beyond the Valley
When: 28th December until January 1st
Where: Lardner Park, VIC
Beyond the Valley is your go to New Year’s camp out. The festival is held in a beautiful remote area of Victoria, with lush grasslands and stunning country landscapes. The show boasts stunning visuals and lighting effects for its performers and acts as a true escape from all the busy noises of Melbourne.
The festival holds acts from hip hop, dance and indie, and this year will feature acts from Chance the Rapper, Bag Raiders and Hermitude.
Southbound
When: 27th to 29th December
Where: Busselton, WA
Another great option for those keen for a campout. Due to the lengthiness of the festival, Southbound is able to play host to a fantastic list of acts, from international to minor, up and coming performers. Busselton, which is just south of Perth, also hosts incredible beaches which you have the option of visiting between the days.
Southbound is the perfect choice for those who want to soak up the sun while they listen to international and local acts. Some recognizable artists include ZHU, Peaches and Ladyhawke.
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival
When: End of January until early February
When: Melbourne VIC, Brisbane QLD, Sydney NSW, Fremantle WA, Port Adelaide SA, Singapore, Auckland NZ
As the name suggests, the festival is held in the streets of the cities they attend, with stages set up at the ends of lanes and major parks, and areas are closed off to traffic so the show can run smoothly. Laneway is a great choice if you aren’t able to get away for a few nights, as it only goes for one day.
Laneway goers are also a little more chilled out than other festival goers. The acts usually are less well known and a large sum are local. This festival could be the perfect option for festival rookies, as there is less commitment but still just the right amount of great music.
Laneway will feature acts from Glass Animals, Jagwar Ma and AURORA.
The great thing about festivals is you have the opportunity to jump between different performances and stages over the day, and indulge in some true one-off shows. Crowds are not exclusive to any particular age, so anyone can enjoy them, and you definitely get value for your money.
