It’s #NationalBirdDay and we’re all squawking with joy. One might say we’re shaking a tail feather, getting ready to leave the nest with excitement.

National Bird Day

It’s #NationalBirdDay in the States and Twitter is having an aneurysm about it. The National holiday is supposed to promote awareness for endangered species of the avian persuasion, but companies have taken the idea and flown the coop with it in order to promote themselves.

The results are hilarious. Punny, cringe-y, and poignant in turn, here are some of our favorite hits and mis-fires of the trend:

Nintendo got into the game with Yoshi’s girlfriend:

The PGA Tour fired back with a cheeky gull taking his shot at a hole-in-one:

GoPro got some truly epic footage of a Pelican learning to fish:

And of course, CrowdInk covered the legendary international incident of two Canadians and an eagle a few weeks ago.

But let us remember what it’s all about. And who could say it better than @birdsrightsactivist?
